Adidas To Replace Nike For Brazil Jersey ?

Adidas, The German sportswear giant, reported to replace their biggest rival Nike, The American sportswear giant, for Brazil National team jersey. Brazilian business magazine ‘Exame’ have suggested that Adidas to a hostile $40 million annually bid that will offer the Brazilian CBF three times the amount currently offered by Nike.
Nike have been sponsored for Brazilian team since 1996 after taking over the jersey from British firm Umbro who’d produced the 1994 World Cup winning shirt.
“I can’t comment on the news”, responded Luciano Kleiman, Adidas’ marketing director in Brazil, “But contacts with national organisations form a regular part of our businessâ€. He refused to comment on claims that the CBF and Adidas had met several times, causing panic in the Nike ranks.
The National or club team shirt business is become a massive market today with over 6 Billion dollars of sales volume per year – more than enough to justify the huge offers made to national and club sides – and everybody wants a bigger slice of the juicy pie. Adidas is currently leading the pack with 30%, Nike with 25% and Puma with 15%.

The Brazilian National Team is a staple of Nike’s retail soccer portfolio. Not only does it generate huge profits for Nike, it also ensures Nike’s position as a global lead and serves as a flagship for Nike Soccer.
