Barcelona To Sign Lyon Defender Eric Abidal

Spanish Primera Liga club Barcelona reported to sign Eric Abidal the defender of French Ligue 1 club Lyon. The talk between Lyon and Barcelona regrading Abidal were set to take place this week. Lyon President President Jean Michel Aulas admitted that Abidal will go at the end of this season. “I could offer him a contract for life, but I understand that his stage at Lyon is over.” Jean Michel Aulas said.
“I understand that Abidal has had contact from Spanish Primera Liga club Barcelona,” said Aulas. “But until now Barca have not contacted us about the player.”
Eric Abidal plays as a left back and central defender with Olympique Lyonnais and the French national team. He is currently considered one of the best fullbacks in the Ligue 1. Regarded as a world class leftback, he is an athletic player (180 cm and 75 kg). His main characteristics are his tight marking and predicting offensive players movements and dribbles while his offensive participation is negligible.
Until now Abidal has earned seventeen caps with the French national team. Abidal played on the French team in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, starting at left back and playing every minute of the tournament with the exception of France’s match against Togo, from which he was suspended after earning two yellow cards over the previous two games.
