Brazilian Marta Named FIFA Women World Player of The Year 2006.

Marta the brazilian women national team was named FIFA World Player of the Year 2006. This is the first time brazilian women soccer player awarded FIFA World Player of the Year. Actualy Marta was twice a finalist in 2004 and 2005 — finishing third in 2004 and second last year, but he always on behind of Germany Birgit Prinz.
Marta also the youngest ever female to win the award in age 20 and just the third individual ever to claim it.
Marta, who plays her club ball for Swedish outfit Umea IK, beat out USA’s Kristine Lilly and Germany’s Renate Lingor to win the 2006 edition.
