Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra reported to make a formal £100M bid to buy England Premiership club Manchester City. “The formal bid will be made in the next few days and there is no official conclusion yet at this moment, but everything is proceeding well we hope to get a decision by the end of the month,” said Thaksin lawyer Noppadol Pattama. Manchester City officials and the club’s public relations adviser weren’t available to comment.
Meanwhile Bangkokpost reported that The Bank of Thailand needs one month to consider whether former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra can transfer money abroad to acquire the English Premier League football club Manchester City. Because several investigations were pending into activities during Mr Thaksin’s administration, the central bank needed to consult other agencies, said Suchart Sakkankosone, director for Exchange Control and Credits Department. Among them are the Assets Scrutiny Committee and the Anti-Money Laundering Office.
Thaksin, 57, was ousted by the military in September last year. Since then, he has remained in self-exile and currently lives in London. Thaksin previously to buy a 30 percent stake in Liverpool, but failed.
